Nebraska Interesting People

Edward Montgomery Clift was born in Omaha on October 17, 1920.  Montgomery was an American film and stage actor. He began his career on Broadway at age 15. He co-starred with John Wayne in the late 1940s. In the early 1950s he was one of Hollywood's leading men, co-starring with Elizabeth Taylor.





Frederick Austerlitz, better known as Fred Astaire, was born in Omaha on May 10, 1899.  Fred began his career in vaudeville in 1905 with his sister Adele. He remained in show business for 76 years as a film and Broadway stage dancer, choreographer, singer and actor.

Nebraska Food

Kool-aid is Nebraska's official soft drink. Kool-aid was invented in 1927 by Edwin Perkins in Hastings. On the second weekend in August, Hastings has an annual summer festival that celebrates Kool-Aid Days.

Roger Craig Knievel aka Evel Knievel was born in Butte on October 17, 1938.  Evel was an American daredevil. During his career, he broke 433 bones. He was entered into the Guinness Book of World Records as the survivor of  "most broken bones in a lifetime".


Myrna Adele Williams aka Myrna Loy was born in Helena on August 2, 1905.  Mryna was an American actress.

Richard Wayne Van Dyke aka Dick Van Dyke, was born on December 13, 1925 in West Plains.  He is an American actor, comedian, writer and producer.




Born in Kansas City on March 3, 1911, Harlean Harlow Carpenter was an American film actress.  A sex symbol in the 1930's, Jean Harlow was also known as the "Blond Bombshell".
