KY Interesting Facts
Wow! The University of Louisville Health Sciences Center has had some major medical accomplishments! In 2006 they helped develop a highly effective vaccine against cervical cancer. In 2001 they had the first fully self-contained artificial heart transplant surgery and in 1999, the first successful hand transplant. They are also accredited for the first Emergency Room in the world in 1911.
What I found to be another very interesting and amazing fact...here in our little town in Vermont...we have an Orthopedic Surgeon that specializes in hand surgery. He graduated from the University of Louisville School of Medicine, in 1999. Lucky us!

Kentucky University/Sports
Originally chartered as the "Jefferson Seminary" in 1798, the University of Louisville did not open it's doors until 1813. It closed in 1829, the re-opened in 1837 and has become one of the best medical school in the country.

Emmett Leo Kelly was an American circus performer. He was well known for the character he created, "Weary Willie" which was based on hobos of the Depression era. Emmett was born in Sedan, in 1898.
