Whitney Elizabeth Houston was listed as "the most awarded female act of all time" by Guinness World Records in 2009. Whitney was born in Newark on August 9, 1963. Whitney was an American recording artist, producer, actress and model. She started singing when she was 11 with her church's junior gospel choir.

New Jersey Sports/University

The College of New Jersey was originally founded in 1746 in Elizabeth. In 1747, the college moved to Newark and then  in 1756, a final move to Princeton. The college was renamed Princeton University in 1896. Princeton University is one of the eight Ivy League colleges. It is also one of the nine Colonial Colleges that were founded before the American Revolution.

New Hampshire Interesting Fact

Four out of nine of the "Isles of Shoals" are located in New Hampshire. These are small islands and tidal ledges that are about 6 miles offshore. The islands provided plenty of good fishing and were first settled by Europeans early in the 17th century.

On January 18, 1782, Daniel Webster was born in West Salisbury. West Salisbury is known today as the city of Franklin. Daniel was an American Statesman and a Senator.


Alan Bartlett Shepard, Jr. was born in East Derry on November 18, 1923. Alan was an American astronaut. He was the first American to be launched into space on May 5, 1961.
