In 1834, most of Oklahoma was set aside as Indian Territory. That would all change in April of 1889, when over 50,000 white settlers showed up for the first day that "homesteading" ever allowed in OK. With such a large influx of white settlers claiming land...in 1890, Oklahoma was divided into Indian Territory AND Oklahoma Territory. Finally in 1907, Oklahoma became one state.
