When the first classes were held in September of 1874, there were 39 students and 6 instructors. Today, Purdue is proud to enroll the second largest student body in Indiana and the second largest international student enrollment of any public university in the United States.
The University of Notre Dame
In January of 1844, the University was officially chartered by a French priest, Rev. Edward Sorin. He named the school in his native tongue, “L’Université de Notre Dame du Lac” (The University of Our Lady of the Lake).
