Vassar College

Founded in 1861 in Poughkeepsie, this private college began as a women's only college. In 1969, the college became coeducational. Vassar spans over 1,000 acres and has more than 200 species of trees, a native plant and ecological preserve. It's library has one of the largest undergraduate library collections in the United States.

New York Interesting Fact

Starting around 1623 to 1655, land around the Hudson River, the lower tip of Manhattan, Albany and New York City area was mostly claimed by Dutch Immigrants.
