 Wisconsin Sports and University

The Green Bay Packers are the only "non-profit, community-owned major league professional sports team" in the U.S. They are also the 3rd oldest franchise...starting back in 1919.

The University of Wisconsin had 17 students attend their first class on February 5, 1849.

 Wisconsin Food and Drink!

With the excess milk from the cows, the Wisconsin farmers made cheese, lots of cheese. The first commercial cheese making factory in Wisconsin opened in 1841. 






The Brandy Old Fashioned has been a favorite in Wisconsin since the German settlers and their love of brandy arrived. More than half of the brandy produced in the U.S. is sold to Wisconsin.

Wisconsin History

Originally founded as Kilbourn City in 1857, the sandstone formations and the glacially formed gorge became a popular tourist destination early on. It's name was changed to Wisconsin Dells in 1931.

Hello Wisconsin! 

During 1840 - 1850, Wisconsin's (non-Native American) population went from 31,000 to 305,000. One third of the new residents were foreign born. Wisconsin became the 30th state to enter the union on May 29, 1848.

 I've had the song "Take Me Home, Country Roads", in my head this whole week! I remember learning to play (trying) it on guitar in school in the 70's! Time to grab some souvenirs and get on the road to Wisconsin!

Born in West Virginia 

Jesse Donald Knotts was born in Morgantown on July 21, 1924. After graduating high school, Don moved to New York to try his luck as a comedian. Unsuccessful in N.Y., he returned to his home state and enrolled in West Virginia University, earning his bachelor's degree in education. Don died on February 24, 2006.





Broderick Stephen Harvey was born in Welch on January 17, 1957. Before becoming a successful comedian and actor, Steve was employed as a boxer, autoworker, insurance salesman, carpet cleaner and a mailman!

 West Virginia Sports

February 7, 1867, the Agricultural College of West Virginia was formed. It's name was changed to West Virginia University on December 4, 1868. Originally an all male school, 10 women were enrolled in 1889...with a female being the first to ever receive a diploma in 1891.

 West Virginia Foods

Pepperoni stuffed inside a white yeast bread roll...Pepperoni rolls were first sold at a bakery in Fairmont in 1927. 




So popular that they have their own festival every year, black walnut trees grow wild in most wooded areas of West Virginia.

I must admit...I found the Geoduck to be an interesting tidbit of Washington. I had never heard of them, and don't believe I will be trying any in the future! Time to grab some souvenirs and hit the road, it's a long way to West Virginia!

 Born in Washington

Harry Lillis Crosby Jr. was born in Tacoma on May 3, 1903. Harry's neighbor nicknamed him "Bingo from Bingville" after a comic feature in their local newspaper, The Bingville Bugle. Eventually, Bingo was shortened to Bing. Bing died on October 14, 1977.





Robert William Barker was born in Darrington on December 12, 1923. Bob spent most of his early years on the Rosebud Indian Reservation in South Dakota. Bob is 1/8 Sioux Indian.

Washington College and Sports

Established on June 4, 1974, the Seattle Seahawks are the only NFL franchise in the Pacific Northwest of North America.







Cushing Eells founded Whitman Seminary in 1859. Eells established the school in honor of Dr. Whitman and his former colleagues that had been murdered 12 years earlier by the Cayuse Indians. The school received it's collegiate charter in 1883.
