Ohio Historical

The Northwest Indian War of 1785-1795 was fought between the United States and multiple Indian tribes (who were supported by the British) for control of the Northwest Territory. In 1788, Marietta, the capital of the Northwest Territory became the first permanent settlement. In September of 1813, the U.S. defeated the British in the Battle of Lake Erie, giving the U.S. control of the lake.

  1. Very interesting, Cindy! I grew up in Ohio and learned about the Northwest Indian War, but don't think I ever knew that Marietta was the capitol of the territory (though I've been there many times). Thanks for featuring Ohio! I'm happy to have found your blog...now I'm off to see if you've featured all the other states I've lived in.
