Oregon Foods

Who knew? Oregon has the ideal climate for hazelnut trees. 99% of the United States hazelnuts are grown in Oregon. The first "culturerized" tree was planted in 1858 and in 1903 the first commercial orchard was started. In 1989, the hazelnut officially became the state nut.

The Oregon Frozen Foods Co. was founded in 1952 by 2 brothers and their brother-in-law. The food company produced and sold frozen corn and french fries. In 1953 the trio came up with the idea of using the leftover potatoes from the french fry production and....the Tater Tot was born! In 1960, the group built a second plant in Idaho where some of their potato fields where located and they changed the name to Ore-Ida.
