Rhode Island Sports
I found out that R.I. has had a lot of "firsts". Polo was played (near Newport) for the first time in U.S. in 1876. The first U.S. Open Golf Tournament was played at the Newport Country Club in 1895. The first National Lawn Tennis Championship was played at the Newport Casino in 1881.
University of Rhode Island Rams
The Rams are a part of the NCAA Division 1 Atlantic 10 Conference. During Frank Keaney's 28 yr coaching career (1920-1948), the Rams record was 401-124.
